HP 9000 R380

I have an R380, with an internal disk and DVD-ROM drive. Whats the best way to add an external tape drive and put more disk storage internally or externally?

Re: HP 9000 R380

Tim,

You obviously know your way round the docs site so I won't point you there. Bear in mind that the R series are essentially D Class systems in a different form factor so D Class info is often relevant as well. I have installed R Class systems (many moons ago) with external RAID systems (StorageWorks in those days) so most SCSI external disk systems are possible depending on the current config of your R380. Internally you only have space for 2 single ended SCSI drives. Most of the available slots for expansion are EISA or HSC, so you could add SCSI with a A4107A FWD card but finding FWD disks might be a challenge. Using Ethernet and adding NAS would be an option. For a tape I would suggest possible adding a SE SCSI (A2679A EISA card). You will probably need to find a broker of use partsurfer to source these types of component; but I presume that you are not on HP support.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Re: HP 9000 R380

HP didnt make a drive better than the A5789A 18GB for the R class servers but if you going non-HP drives the biggest one that can go into the R class servers is a 36GB 7200 RPM drive and you can get 2 in then R boxes.

The maximum memory is 3GB using 6 x A3717A 512MB Memory Kits

Hope this helps
