HP-9000 SERVER PA-RISC, rp3440

I have HP-9000 SERVER PA-RISC, rp3440, I have request it to be with four processor, what when I have open the cover I found that phyiscaly there is two proccessor in side the server, is that mean each proccessor is equivelent to two proccessor ?

Hi,

rp3440 has dual-core processor PA8800 - one unit has two processors.

rp3440 is two sockets system. Each processor module has two processor cores and common 32MB cache. So you have four processors. It's important for licensing - per CPU licenses should be for four CPU.

Once your system installed, issue a "ioscan -fkn -C processor" to be sure, but other answers are right, and each module contains 2 CPU.

Note that dual core is not like hyperthreading which shares resources but is two physical CPUs on a single piece of silicon. Each core has it's own level 1 cache of 1.5MB.
