HP Fan Failure on RP2400- but which one?
My GSP log is showing me the following :
DATE: 11/24/2005 TIME: 11:52:37
ALERT LEVEL: 6 = Boot possible, pending failure - action required
SOURCE: 6 = platform
SOURCE DETAIL: 3 = cabinet fan SOURCE ID: 0
PROBLEM DETAIL: 4 = fan failure
CALLER ACTIVITY: 4 = monitor STATUS: F
CALLER SUBACTIVITY: 05 = fan
REPORTING ENTITY TYPE: 2 = power monitor REPORTING ENTITY ID: 00
0x002000646300405F 00000000 00000000 type 0 = Data Field Unused
0x582008646300405F 0000690A 180B3425 type 11 = Timestamp 11/24/2005 11:52:37
Type CR for next entry, - CR for previous entry, Q CR to quit.
Now I understand that a fan has failed but which one? The machine has 4 fans attached to the power supply, one on the far left side of the machine behind the hard disks and obviously one above the CPU - but which one is fan 0?
Thanks in advance.

Re: HP Fan Failure on RP2400- but which one?
The above code indicates that FAN 0 has failed. Please look into the service manual/ FAN connectors for FAN numbering.
With Regards,
Siva

Re: HP Fan Failure on RP2400- but which one?
Hi,
As per the chassis log , FAN0 has failed.
The fan is located right on the top of the CPU0.
Refer the following document which gives chassis code description for fan faults and a picture showing the fans locations.
http://docs.hp.com/en/rp24xx_fan_updte/ch01s01.html

Re: HP Fan Failure on RP2400- but which one?
hi lee,
fan0 and fan1 are both cpu fans/turbocoolers.
so you have from this code 0x002000646300405F fan0 failure on cpu0
this will need replacing, it is the one nearest the left looking from the front, or nearest the pci backplane.
