HP server CPU RAM configuration

I am working on the configuration for a development project which invloves:

1. at least 10 developers working parallely

2. heavy multithreaded backend processes in C++ and pro C with oracle database. also uses ftam, mtp, tcp/ip sockets etc.

3. a jsp based reporting tool using a web server and oracle database which should have a good response time. around 10 users expected for JSP GUI.

The recommendation for the development server that I could find from available info is:

rp4440 with 8 CPU and 8 GB RAM.

Would anyone let me know from your expereience if this server configuration would support the requirements and also kindly suggest any changes in the config for better performance ?

any response would be appreciated.

Re: HP server CPU RAM configuration

Arindam,
I can't speak to your specific configuration, but I can tell you what I have seen.

The rp4440 is a very capable server, especially when set up with 8 CPUs. (Both 800mhz and 1ghz CPUs are available, both have 3MB cache. You cannot mix speeds in the server.) 8gb of RAM may not be optimal if you have large databases. Most installations to date have had a minimum of 2gb/cpu, with 4gb/cpu becoming more common.
