HP900 800/F30 new drive won't work...?
I currently have the original C3010 5.25" SCSI HDD installed (at 52.6.0) and a
CDROM (at 52.0.0). The C3010 drive needs to be replaced. I have been supplied
with a new ST39173N (HP part # A4912). I can afford to simply remove and
replace the C3010 with the new one.
When I replace the C3010 with the new drive (same SCSI ID etc and correct
termination!!) I find that when I interrupt the boot sequence to boot from
alternative (the CDROM) to allow me to install the OS (HP-UX 10.20) the CDROM
does not appear to be selected (as determined from the LED on the front).
If I were to re-fit the C3010 back (and remove the new drive), interrupt the
boot sequence, select alternative - all is well (the CDROM is selected and
bootable).
Is there any drive preparation needed or should I be able to install this
drive, boot from the CD and install the OS?
Your advice would be appreciated.
Regards,

Re: HP900 800/F30 new drive won't work...?
Can you check this.
when you interrupt the boot, do a
sea to search for bootable devices. Does the cdrom come up as an address .
if not, there is likely to be a terminator (scsi) on the disk. Thus ending the
bus there. Are you absolutely sure that the scsi address
on the new disk is not confliciting. Careful when
checking the jumpers.
