HP9000 817S
We have purchased a small business that uses an HP9000 817S. This systems is
Berkeley B.10.20 and is connected to the users thru serial connections. It is
important to mention I have very little Unix background. I need to disable all
serial connections to connect the unix box to an NT 4.0 network which is using
TCP/IP Cat 5 connections. We would like to purchase a network card for this
Unix box (we're going to be using Reflections to connect to Unix). My
questions are these: Can we keep two of the serial connections (printers)
attached and still use a network card on the same box for the user
connections? Also, where do we find an HP person to do this install for us?
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: HP9000 817S
Yes you can have a network card in the system, provided here is a free slot for
it, I think the card is a J2165A.
Look at the main card at the back of the system it may have a network
connection already.
And yes you can use printers onto the MUX using serial connections.
I would suggest you contact your nearest HP office to get the assistance you
require.

Re: HP9000 817S
debi,
usually the servers come with a network connection, could be an aui port or
ethernet, as previously mention, take a look in the back.
where are you located? i know of a few consultants that could help.
regards,
bill
