HP9000 K580 Server not able to boot

Hi,

I am facing a k580 svr not able to boot up after trying to replace 2x fc card(A3404A) with 2x fc(A6685A) frm the expansion I/O. Have tried replacing back the original cards(A3404A) but still the server refuse to get up.

The booting process simply hangs up over here regardless how long I waited.
1. Have tried booting using alt disk, single user mode, prev kernel and it still the same.
2. Tried booting with minimum config by pulling out the whole extension I/O card and still it does not helps.
3. The display panel is not having any warnings, it having init CE4F code(kernel about to mount root file system)

Attached is the PIM/PDT logs I have captured but as the timestamp is way back thus am not sure about it.

Any advices would be appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,
Kayson

Look for the MP>Sl>S and MP>Sl>F logs from the MP

or may be you can post the o/p here

Re: HP9000 K580 Server not able to boot

Do you have a recent bootable ignite tape?
You could see if you can boot from the tape instead of the disk. I'm NOT telling you to overwrite your disk. I'm only asking to see if the tape is bootable and the disk is not.

Here's another shot in the dark that you probably already thought of...
Shut it down and reseat the cards.
You did replace a card. Perhaps a different card was loosened in that process.

Re: HP9000 K580 Server not able to boot

IMHO everything points to the core I/O card.

Did you already try to re-seat the core I/O and the mounted cards?

Also check for bent SCSI pins on the cables.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HP9000 K580 Server not able to boot

Hi Kayson,

Your Primary and Alternate paths are on the Core I/O. However, you may want to see if you can boot from CD device 10/12/5.2 (still CORE I/O, but different bus path) by using the the Offline Diagnostic Environment (ODE) CD to check and verify basic h/w functionality. If the CD hangs, then you may want to try to boot from another path (/8/, expansion i/o) to verify paths outside of the Core I/O. Note: the system is reporting errors on one of the expansion I/O paths (/8/8/2). So...

Try to run the diagnostics and verify the h/w.

Re: HP9000 K580 Server not able to boot

as from the problem description, it only happen after the fc card replacement. should indeed plug back the old fc cards and boot up the o/s. install the proper fc driver for the new fc cards.
