HP9000 /N4000 and HP FC/30 High Availability disk Array

Hi I have a customer that want reuse a HP9000/N4000 (A3639A) server , Hi want install HPux 11-11, the local disk that he have in the system are to small (9GB in mirror).

Hi Also have and HP FC/30 High Availability disk Array (A3661BZ), He want take two disk of 18GB from this array and dismount the disk from the cage and install then as internal disk in the HP9000/N4000

My question is .
are the disk installed in the cage of the HP FC/30 High Availability disk Array (A3661BZ compatible in such way that can be installed as internal disk in the HP9000/N4000?.

Thank you

Hi William,

Based on my experience, I should say that you can give it a try.
I think internally FC30 is SCSI based (old box) So if the SCSI connector from the FC30 disk is the same as in the N4000, it should work.

Re: HP9000 /N4000 and HP FC/30 High Availability disk Array

hi,

The internal disks in the N4000 are se scsi with a SCA80 type connector on them, to connect to the backplane.

The disks inside the caddies from the FCA/30 are also se scsi but these have the older 50pin type scsi connector.

This means they are not really compatible.

You could bodge the job by using an SCA80-50 pin adapter, but I dont think the disk would fit in the N4000 correctly and would stick out slighty from the back and not allow for the cover to over them and stop them falling out.

Also these disks run alot slower and the performance would be alot slower compared to the proper LVD disks. He would be better off buying some proper 18gb or 36gb drives for the N4000, or trade the FCA30 in with a reseller.

Re: HP9000 /N4000 and HP FC/30 High Availability disk Array

Hi there.
As mentioned above the old disks in the FC30
Galaxy array are SE SCSI internally.
A direct connect to the internal controler of the N4000 is not possible.
You could try some adapters, but i would not take that way.
