HP9000 why is it called so

why is HP ux servers called HP9000 series?
did we have a different series sometime before?

and why is servers called 800 and workstations called 700 series

is there any specific reason like processor code name or its just a name

There were earlier HP 3000 servers, they run MPE.

Being nostalgic we have also hp HP1000 running RTE.
In the HP9000 series we have also had 200, 300 and 400 workstations. The 500 I seem to remember where both servers and workstations.
