Re: Hardware Upgrade possible?
Thankyou for your response.
when you say:
"It might be possible to upgrade it to a k570 or k580, though."
Do u mean replace the machine or replace some part with the upgrared one?
Also with this new machine (k570, k580) what are the cpu speeds and other capacities?

Re: Hardware Upgrade possible?
I don't know how expensive this would be but you should keep in mind that this upgrade would only go from 180MHz to 240MHz - not much of a gain, so you'll need to weigh that against the cost. It might be cheaper and easier to just buy a different machine on the used market.

Re: Hardware Upgrade possible?
The K series, while good machines, are limited in the upgrades now available, and they are getting expensive to support.
I got an e-mail from a company this week that is offereing an L2000 with 2 x 550MHz CPUs, 2 x 18GB disks and 2 GB RAM for $5,450.
That machine would thoroughly outperform the K.
If you are interested the company is:

Re: Hardware Upgrade possible?
Patrick's links (I get it too) will happily give you the price for an upgrade, which is probably not a good idea, since the K class is approaching end of life.
Then on the same spreadsheet, show the investment in an rp5450 server.
This machine will cost less to fix, has a three year warranty, and will cost a lot less to put on a hardware contract than a K class.
Our cost savings on going from D to rp5450 servers paid the entire capital expense in four years(last year is projected savings).
