Re: How to set date/time in GSP/MP

Type help on CM prompt. It will display the available commands.
MP:CM> HE

MP:CM> DATE

This command sets the date and time on the MP.

Current date is: 05/25/2008
Do you want to modify it? (Y/[N]) n

Re: How to set date/time in GSP/MP

Remember that the GSP/MP clock is usually synchronized at the hardware/firmware level with the system's internal clock, which should always be set to UTC time, not the local time of your timezone.

The time/date logic of Unix systems and databases like Oracle is built on the fact that the UTC time is a world-wide standard. An UTC timestamp identifies a point in time explicitly, with no chance of misunderstandings because of timezones or standard/DST time transitions.

Changing the system's internal clock to local time would ruin all this logic. It's not worth it.

Re: How to set date/time in GSP/MP

What matti is told is correct.

I have seen that one of my friend tried to reset the time in EFI of Itanium server. after that server starts to give error and nothing in EFI shell is getting saved.

At last we were forced replace the system battery .So please don't do it.

[hazuxpa5-c] MP:CM> he date

HE date

This command displays the date as known to MP.

Command line usage:

Re: How to set date/time in GSP/MP

The "DATE" command in your MP firmware version seems to be for _displaying_ the date only, not _setting_ it.

So set the system time correctly (if the HP-UX is running, use its "date" or "ntpdate" commands, if not, use the commands in the PDC menus). When HP-UX starts up, the current system time (in UTC) will automatically be copied to the MP.

If this does not work, check your MP and PDC firmware versions. If you have up-to-date firmware and it still does not synchronize the MP clock automatically to system time, you may have a hardware fault in MP.
