I40 Server Fibre

Does anyone know if the old I-class servers have any Fibre Channel cards available?

No. There is no Fibre channel card supported on I class servers.

Hi Josh,

Shiju is of course correct, but look at this as an opprotunity to go to mgmnt & tell them it's *time* to retire that dinosaur & get you a capable server. Hell - even a K-class can run fibre-channel. But if I were you, I'd hold out for an rp54xx.

LOL! Actually, I was getting this info for someone who was looking to put the I40 into a SAN...interesting mix there! :)

The I-series (well, the obsolete Nova class which incldues F,G,H, and I and their predecessors) are very slow, both I/O as well as processor so new cards would be a waste as they could not keep up with high speed interfaces. In some cases, HP has provided gigabit cards for older machines (not the Novas) as a 'connectivity' solution. The card connects at 1000Mbit but actual througput would not be much better than a 10Mbit card. NOTE: A new rp24xx server would replace several I40's, take 1/5 the power and cost 1/2 what the original I40 cost.
