If I install Dibian on my 9000 D350, will it have a gui?

I know this is probably a stupid question. Also, I was curious if there are any kinks or quarks I should know about? can I boot from the cd?

Hi Adam,

You can get to a point where you can access the host via X, but you won't have one to start with. Support for HP video cards on PA-RISC isn't very good. I've tried Debain on a C180 and C360. On the C180 video worked, but the C360 did not.

The Debain installer is text based, so even with a working video card you'll be working in text mode. I'd suggest you use the serial port and a console (null modem) cable to install it, but the supported hardware info at http://www.parisc-linux.org/hardware/supported.html
indicates that a D-class console card works.

Even if the video card doesn't work for Debain you can run the box headless and once you've got Linux installed you can access X from a workstation or PC with X software.

You should be able to boot off the CD. Read the HOW-TO at http://www.pateam.org/parisc-linux-boot/doc.html before you start.

Good luck,
Tom
