Installing HP-UX on RP2470 without CD-ROM...

Hi,

We have a customer with a new RP2470.
I just noticed that it has no CD drive...

How can I install the OS?

Sugestions are welcome!

TIA,

Kind Regards,

Rui.

Re: Installing HP-UX on RP2470 without CD-ROM...

Hi Rui,

Well, your options are only:

1) If it has a tape drive, then you could load a make_recovery tape, changing the hostname & IPs in the process.

or

2) Through the LAN by using a make_net Ignite or Golden image.

or

3) Purchase & install an external tape drive and smart enclosure to hold it. Or just an external self-enclosed drive - not as elegant as it can't be "mounted" in the rack. It would just have to "sit" on something in the rack - but that would be cheaper.

Jeff

4) Beg, borrow or steal a portable CD from another system if you have one available.

Man Tully, You Ozzies are a resourceful lot.
Yep - I've "stolen" an external tape from the next rack before to run a quickie make_tape_recovery tape. Poor soul never knew it was temporarily missing.
I "forgot" that solution..he..he..he
