Is needed licence to upgrade PA8800 to PA8900?
Hi all,
I am preparing to order new processors to upgrade rp4440 2xPA8800 to 2xPA8900.
Is needed a licence for this upgrade?
I want to order 2xAB526A but I see from documentation that this box contains:
- Electrically Conductive Field Service Kit (P/N 9300-1155)
- 1/4 inch flat blade screwdriver
- ACX-15 Torx┬о screwdriver
- PA8900 DPM module
- "Read Me" documentation
But I do not see that this box contains the license also.
Is it needed the license for this upgrade and if yes, how to order it?
Thank you.

I guess you already have a license to use HP-UX with your server. This is enough.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Is needed licence to upgrade PA8800 to PA8900?
Hi Torsten,
Thank you for your fast response.
From Server Upgrade Guide documentation, P/N A9950-96003, I see that it is needed a license to use the other processors (see pg 63 and 74 of this document).
As I understand from documentation, it is not needed any additional license for OS, but a license that is entered from BCH shell through "Upgrade" command.
Thank you.

Re: Is needed licence to upgrade PA8800 to PA8900?
This is a different thing.
The PA8900 is a dual core CPU. You can purchase this dual CPU with only one core activated. AFAIR this is another product number than yours.
In this case you can purchase a license to activate the second core and use the "upgrade" command.
If you buy the CPU with both cores activated, this action is not needed.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
