K410 - server hangs at PDC> sea
I have a K410 that has 1gb memory, 1 cdrom, 1 DDS2, 2 internal disks and 3 network cards. When I do 'sea' at the PDC, it displays both disk drives, the cdrom drive, the tape drive and all 3 network cards but it stays there forever and does not come back to the PDC prompt again.
Can someone help to resolve the issue.

Re: K410 - server hangs at PDC> sea
do you have any faulty devices?
SCSI timeout is a possible cause.
The system searches faulty device, but never hears back, so just sits there.
Check all your cabeling and terminators.
Then start removing unnecessary devices until you identify the faulty one.
What happens if you don't do a search, but select one of the devices to boot?

Re: K410 - server hangs at PDC> sea
My issue specifically was trying to get the addresses in a shared JBOD to not conflict with the internal disks.
Bad cables made it into a issue, and SEA would hang. After about 15 minutes it would finally termiante.
I'd investigate the issues above. I suppose if a disk failed that could also cause the problem.

Re: K410 - server hangs at PDC> sea
I also tried to load the OS from the cd. The server booted fine from the cd but stucks where it says 'scanning for io devices'...
Any clues...

Re: K410 - server hangs at PDC> sea
sounds like a termination issue most likely to me.
I would check the drives for termination especially the tape drive. check the jumpers on the drives and the cables are correct. The other cause could be as also mentioned a faulty drive not responding.
If the system boots up ok then I would test the other devices with stm first.
Is the external ports also terminated on the server? with the correct terminators?
Its always worth checking the pdc level of firmware, especially if the network cards have just been added.

Re: K410 - server hangs at PDC> sea
consensus seems to be SCSI.
Can you please boot the machine and then run an ioscan to get the list of devices.
Compare this list against what is actually on the system and the missing component is the most likely culprit.
Also check with dmesg for SCSI conflicts or resets.
Let us know what you find.
