Re: KVM switch for rp2470

A standard kvm switch should work with the mouse and keyboard input of an rp class server. Ours do not have video cards so I can't speak with certainty there.

Certainly a low end model can be tested. If the cable connectors work then almost any brand should work.

For real functionality though you may be better off for certain console functions using a web console. The Secure Web console lets you connect TOC and do all kinds of nice things via a web browser.

Re: KVM switch for rp2470

Thank you for your reply SEP. The main problem I have is the monitor part. I have 2 rp2470 which I need to connect them to 1 KVM switch in order for me to switch between this 2 unix servers.

Any suggestion on this kind of KVM switch?

Thank you.

Re: KVM switch for rp2470

I suspect that you don't need a KVM switch at all, but a RS-232 switch. These are much cheaper, fortunately.
The RP2470 doesn't have facilities for a standard PS2-style mouse and keyboard. You could put a video card in it, but I don't know what good this would do since you wouldn't also have mouse and/or keyboard.
The best bet for you would be to hook up the secure web console and use that. That'll let you use your browser (Netscape, IE, Mozilla, etc) for console access.
You can also use a PC running Hyperterminal to access the console. Dumb terminals are cheap, and you might want to get one of these as well.
But in any case, you don't need a KVM at all.

Re: KVM switch for rp2470

Thats right. No mouse or ps/2 port on my rp5450 servers either. I forget because my D class boxes did have mice.

Secure Web Console or Chris' serial switch is the way to go here. If you want to use these boxes a a workstation you would need a windows X emulation. Then with a PC you could do applications and computing that mostly run on the rp boxes cpu.

Re: KVM switch for rp2470

Did you get the graphics card/USB card for the rp2470? I think it is the A6150B. If so, this is possible with the A7782A USB/PS2 adapter, but may still not be satisfactory for you. It consumes 2 I/O slots, so it isn't very ideal.
