L class server modem Installation

I need to install a modem on an L class server
connected to the 9 pin remote console port.

Is there a special cable to connect the modem
via this port as used to be done when connecting to a MUX card i.e. the 92219Q cable
or is it just a standard RS232C cable that comes bundled with the modem.

Does anyone by chance know the pinout of the Remote console port.

One last thing what are the bare AT commands requirements needed to make it function on a Hayes modem ?

Re: L class server modem Installation

Hi,

The remote console port on the 'L' will work with the bundled modem cable - as if you were connecting the modem to a PC.

I would check your modem manual for the AT commands.

Re: L class server modem Installation

Standard addresses for Remote Support Port:
L series : : 0/0/4/0 port 2
Go into the GSP-mode and check the following:
# CTRL+B
GSP>
#GSP> CA
shows the port settings:
Remote Console Serial Port Modem Protocol: CCITT
Remote Console Serial Port Modem bit rate: 19200 bits/s
Remote Console Serial Port Modem Flow Control: Hardware
Remote Console Serial Port Modem Transmit Configuration Strings: Enabled

Should be as follow:
Remote Console Serial Port Modem Protocol: BELL
Remote Console Serial Port Modem bit rate: 19200 bits/s
Remote Console Serial Port Modem Flow Control: Software
Remote Console Serial Port Modem Transmit Configuration Strings: Disabled

Re: L class server modem Installation

What about if someone wants to use the UPS port of the server? Will the cable be the same as the one provided for PCs?
