L1000 Slow

I have a new L1000 for our testbed. It runs terribly slow. It takes over 15 minutes to get the hardware scanned in voulme groups. SAM takes 5 minutes to come up. All of this is from the console

The system has 1gb ram
2 processors and 4 18gb drives.

I am having a hard time setting it up because of speed.

Any thoughts?

My first guess would be the IO system. Are the 4 disk internal? What kind of IO interfaces are included? Do you get SCSI resets in the syslog or dmesg?

All disks internal. dmesg was not running yet, just setting up system. Have it running now. Looked in the syslog and only error was

SCM ERROR: io error on file /var/opt/mx/data/mx.properties

Have one external device. A DVD

Check nsswitch.conf. I have had this problem when I setup DNS before the networking subsystem was fully functional. HP-UX has a terrible time if there are (TCP/)IP issues.
