L2000 processor problems

I have an L2000 with 360 procs in it that boots with no problem, however when I put 440 procs in -it will not initialize (pdc). I tried changing the dip switches but that doesn't seem to work either. I have also tried different 440 procs altogether to rule out a bad processor. What can cause this? and will the machine run on one proc only? and will it run with a combination of 360 and 440 procs? The system board is a5191-60001. thanks.

Re: L2000 processor problems

I'm confused. Are you mixing the 360 and 440 CPUs, or putting only 440s in there? If you only have 440MHz CPUs, then the dipswitch settings should be:

on off off off on
(revision A board)

or:

on off off on on
(revision B board)

I don't know if the L2000 will run a mix of 360 and 440 MHz CPUs, but it should, if you have the dipswitches set at 360MHz. I could be wrong on that, and it is definitely not supported.

Re: L2000 processor problems

I want to only use 2 -440s and the settings are set correctly. The system does run with 2 - 360s in it. I then combined the 2 440s with the 2 360s that ran and it would fail during initialization (pdc)

Re: L2000 processor problems

And it also failed with only the 2 440MHz CPUs?

Re: L2000 processor problems

yes. And I have this same exact issue with two other L2000s. Can it have anything to do with the power input?

Re: L2000 processor problems

You've probably done all this already, but it never hurts to ask:

Are the CPUs installed in the correct slots?

Do you have the correct Processor Support Module PN A3636-60012 or A5168A (It's the same for 360 or 440)

The L2000 should support 4 CPUs (360MHZ or 440MHZ).

Re: L2000 processor problems

I have had similar experiences, I found out it seems HP have two different part numbers on there 440MHZ processors.
The processor with Part No. A5522-04001 doesn't seem to work on all System Boards.

When you check under the GSP using the SS command no processors are installed.

I still haven't figured why they don't work.
