L2000 won't recognize disk

Hi,
I've got an HP L2000 in which one disk failed over.
It was a A7285A, SEAGATE ST373307LC, 73G 10RPM LVD. I replaced it by a MAP3735NC which one comes from a PROLIANT DL380 server.
The disk is not recognized in ioscan even if the front led is green.
It's the same size, same speed both LVD.... I don't anderstand why this disk is not seen in an HP server but is OK in a proliant one.
Thanks to anyone who have the solution !!!

Re: L2000 won't recognize disk

The odds are very high that this "new" disk contains no HP firmware & that's why it's not recognized.
HP disks - especially boot disks - almost always have to contain HP FW to work correctly in the HP-UX world.

Re: L2000 won't recognize disk

Hi

I agree with Jeff looks like this disk is not supported because of the firmware and maybe that is the reason why it is not able to see the disk.

Re: L2000 won't recognize disk

Did you do an "ioscan -fnC" disk and see if it shows up as a device? If you know the path, do a /etc/diskinfo /dev/rdsk/cXtXdX to see if what it reports back.

Re: L2000 won't recognize disk

yes I did an ioscan but the disk is not seen and there's no device in /dev/rdsk.
But I had got the same problem with an HP disk which I try to setup in an PROLIANT3000.
I thinks it's a problem of firmware, so you can't switch Hp disks into COMPAQ.

Re: L2000 won't recognize disk

You need to use the insf command to create the device file once it shows up in ioscan. Make sure you ioscan with "ioscan -fnC disk" and not "ioscan -funC disk" which will just read kernel memory.
