Looking for guide on how to replace CPU in L-class (L2000)

I'm sending two CPUs out of the country and am looking for a PDF or html guide on how to add/replace CPUs for our L2000. I have visited the link http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/onlinedocs.py?mpn=A5191-96018&service=hpux&path=00/00/13&title=rp5400%20User%20Guide, but it has nothing to mention about CPU adding/replacement (as I suspect they want HP to do this). I have done this in the past, but was looking for some documentation to pass on to my collegue.

Thanks,

..Joe

Hi Joe,

Try the L-class Upgrade Guide:

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/A5191-96020.pdf

Not exactly what you're looking for, but does have some illustrations that could help.

Search this doc for :

Hey Joe,

Try this guide..which is basically written for K-Class but follow the same procedures. I used this as a reference to upgrade my L-Class servers.

Re: Looking for guide on how to replace CPU in L-class (L2000)

I've seen it done.

I will assume you are sending the right cpu.

1) Power down the box,normal shutdown -h
2) pull the L2000 box out of the rack.
3) remove top cover, cpu location will be obvious, its got an enormous heat sync on it.
4) CPU is held in place with four screws, remove them.
5) Remove old CPU if applilcable
6) Insert new CPU the same way.
7) Screw the CPU back in
8) Put the top cover back on
9) Put the L2000 back in the rack
10) Power up the machine, use GSP to make sure its enabled on the console. It may auto recognize.

Note to you: Make sure you have appropriate export permits for shipping these parts overseas. I'm not sure if L2000 boxes are covered under US export laws. Its a good idea to check with your legal department, unless of course you've already done so or know better than me(probable).

Hi Joe,

check out the hardware section under http://docs.hp.com for all the available hardware manuals for different models.

Hope this helps.
