Re: MP Firmware Update

MP Firmware Update

We have an rp8420 which when connected to the MP we can go into CM and the DE then U and get the 'Air inlet temperature'.

We wanted to do the on our rp3440 and reading up on it discovered we needed to update the MP Firmware to Revision E.03.13. We actually updated to Revision E.03.15 which succeeded. However we still cannot access the menu option to show this 'Air inlet temperature'.

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Re: MP Firmware Update

Does it look like this?

MP:CM> de

Unrecognized Command : Type HE for help on the available commands

This MP doesn't support this command.

Hope this helps!

Re: MP Firmware Update

Take a look at the 2 boxes and you will agree - they are very different.

Still the same idea:

This MP doesn't support this command.

Hope this helps!

Re: MP Firmware Update

All you can get out of this MP is:

MP:CM> ps

PS
System Power state: On
Temperature : Normal

...

Hope this helps!

Re: MP Firmware Update

Ah, that's a shame.

Reading the Operations Guide for the rp3440, on page 31 (Management Processor), it states the after updating the firmware to Revision E.03.13 certain features will be activated, one of which is the following:
-----------------------------------------
Display of information about various internal subsystems
├в Field replaceable unit (FRU) information
├в System power state, temperature information, and fan status
├в Status of processors
-----------------------------------------
I thought this was going to mean we could get similar output as on our rp8420 system.

Re: MP Firmware Update

On a further note to this, we wanted an Email notification sent out when envd hits the OVERTEMP_CRIT level, so we amended the appropriate section in the /etc/envd.conf file as follows:
OVERTEMP_CRIT:y
mailx -s "Server Critical temp warning"
However, no Emails have been sent so far even though on numerous occasions this level has been reached.

Any ideas why?

Re: MP Firmware Update

Hi Matthew,

The configfile (or /etc/envd.conf) is only examined when the daemon is started or when it receives a SIGHUP signal to restart and re-initialize the daemon itself.

Re: MP Firmware Update

I assume you have restarted the envd daemon after the changes to envd.conf file.

If it's not working still, then check the version of STM you have. There was a known issue with STM Sept 2005 where neither process "envd" nor "ia64_corehw" monitor can
detect a overtemp event. There was patch PHSS_33918 released for it's fix. However current recommended patch is PHSS_34835. If not applied, apply the latest patch and see if you can overtemp event notification.

Re: MP Firmware Update

Thanks guys,

Restarting the daemon did the trick.
