Management Port

Hi,

Yesterday while I am having a chat with one of HP Engineer I heard about the Management port.

The port is having a Seperate IP and using this we can able to access the server from remote with the IP address from the H/W level.

But Not Too clear details I get from the Engineer.

If Anybody here to share details about Management Port..

Re: Management Port

Hi Susee,

Management port is where SP (Service Processor) running, which has a separate IP and you can use telnet to connect to this port and do administration (hardware level to some extent). It is called as GSP and MP in IA-64 servers.

Re: Management Port

Management Port is also termed as a LAN Console. Basically by configuring the IP on the same , you can get console access sitting on LAN.

Following functions can be performed via MP
a) Initiate TOC
b) Switch ON/OFF Sytem
c) Check Boot logs for error diagonosis
d) Need console acces to boot the system in single user mode
e) Troubleshooting purpose

Re: Management Port

You can also isolate H/W faults sitting from remote place by doing a telnet to Management port.

If you are not able to lon or telnet then Console access will be of very Great help to diagonose the issue.

Even through Modem also we can get console access. So we can dial-in and chack the status of the system.

Re: Management Port

And because the IA-64 servers can support multiple Operating Systems this functionality is not specific to HP-UX. The MP is actually like a seperate card with a seperate battery power source that will allow the cared to stay up even if the server is power cycled.
