Maxiumum Number of Processors in HP9000 rp4440-8

I was told that our rp4440-8 has the maximum number of CPUs installed, 4 (4 dual core). But while reading some of the post in the ITRC forum and checking our system config I am not sure. In one post, it was implied that for a rp4440-8 that has the maximum number of processors, you will see 8 processor lines in the syslog. Below is the some system output, Thank You

echo "selclass qualifier cpu;info;wait;infolog" | cstm | egrep "Processor Number|Slot"
Processor Number: 0 Path: 128
Slot Number: 0 Software Capability: 0x100000f0
Processor Number: 1 Path: 129
Slot Number: 0 Software Capability: 0x100000f0
Processor Number: 2 Path: 136
Slot Number: 2 Software Capability: 0x100000f0
Processor Number: 3 Path: 137
Slot Number: 2 Software Capability: 0x100000f0

grep processor syslog.log

The OS should see each core as a different processor, so if you run:

ioscan -kfCprocessor

and see only 4 processors, then your rp4440 has only 2 x dual-core processors installed and you can add another 2 to take the total seen by the OS to 8.

try to run the command to see the processors

#ioscan -fnC processor

Thank you for the reply Duncan, we are at 100% CPU now and I told there is nothing that can be done. But that does not seem to be the case.

ioscan -kfCprocessor
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
===================================================================
processor 0 128 processor CLAIMED PROCESSOR Processor
processor 1 129 processor CLAIMED PROCESSOR Processor
processor 2 136 processor CLAIMED PROCESSOR Processor
processor 3 137 processor CLAIMED PROCESSOR Processor

So from your statement we can add two more dual core processors?

Re: Maxiumum Number of Processors in HP9000 rp4440-8

Yes, you should be able to add 2 more dual-core processors, to get a total of 8 cores.

I don't recall if the rp4440 servers had a single-core option for CPUs. If they did, and you have 4 single-core CPUs then you are maxed out.

Re: Maxiumum Number of Processors in HP9000 rp4440-8

The rp4440 never had a single-core processor option. Please just confirm that your system is a rp4440 and not a rp4410 which looks exactly the same but only supported 2 sockets. You can confirm by running the 'model' command. Even if it is a rp4410, you can still upgrade, you just have to buy an upgrade kit as well as the CPUs and software licenses.
