Memory Error Log Summary

The memory error log is empty.

Question:
1) How many memory still can be added for above 2 servers? And what is the max MB per single memory that these 2 servers can support?

2) For RP5470, there is some errors on the memory. How I'm going to troubleshoot based on these errors messages?

3) How many CPU still can be added for above 2 servers? What is the max mhz per single CPU that these 2 servers can support?
For RP5470 & RP7410, both current CPU is 2 x 875 MHz, PA-RISC2.0, v.

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

1) RP5470 - up to 16 GB memory, RP7410 - up to 64 GB memory

2) single bit errors should not cause any problems

3) RP5470 - up to 4 PA8700, 875 MHz CPUs, RP7410 - up to 8 PA8700, 875 MHz CPUs

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

Hi,

Thanks for your fast response.

Q1) For RP5470, there are total 16 slots. The max memory that can support is 16GB. Is means that 1 slot can support up to max 1GB?

Q2) For RP7410, there are total 16 slots. The max memory that can support is 64GB. Is means that 1 slot can support up to max 4GB?

Q3) How to find out the available memory & CPU slots? What I mean is in order to add the memory & CPU up to max for these 2 servers, do I need to buy extra slot/scsi? Or the server itself already come with all the slot/scsi?

regards.

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

q1) yes

q2) yes

q3) the slots are already there, you just need to fill them

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

Maybe I should re-consider that response, at least q1 and q2, anyway. I seem to recall that the older N-class had memory carriers and you had to purchase a second carrier to fully expand. I'm not sure if that is the case with the newer rp series, but will see if I can find out.

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

The rp5470 does seem to have a memory carrier available which provides 8 additional slots, but you already have 16 slots, so I suspect you have two carriers already.

I'm still searching for an answer on the rp7410.

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

hi, rp7410 can have 64gb max memory if 2 cell baords are installed.

It is 32gb 16 slots and 4 processors per cell board.

part numbers of mem upgrades are here

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

Hi,

RP7410
max 16 GB per cell board,32 GB with two cell boards

The minimum cell configuration includes two active CPUs and 1 GB of memory per cell board.
The maximum configuration includes four active CPUs and 16 GB of memory per cell board.
Memory DIMM modules for the rp7410 are sold in sets of four (quads), with DIMM board
sizes of 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1 GB available at first release. Memory quads of different
sizes can be mixed within a chassis and within a cell. However, for optimum memory
interleaving and performance, it is recommended that one memory size be selected and
distributed evenly across available cells.

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

Andrew is correct, support for 64 GB mem has been added in 2003

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

Hi,

1) For RP5470, the default memory slots is 8 with each max up to 1GB and can support up to 2 CPUs. But according to the nickel info, currently the server seems like has 16 memory slots and can support up to 4 CPUs without buying any extra cell board/slots. Am I right?

2) For RP7410, 1 cell board consists of 16 memory slots with each max up to 2GB and can support up to 4 CPUs. Based on above kernel, currently the server seems like has 1 cell board. Am I right?

regards.

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

Hi,
(1)
Yes you are right, you have 2 Processor Support Modules

L3000/RP5470

L2000/L3000
4x440MHz PA-RISC 8500
4x550MHz PA_RISC 8600
RP5450/RP5470
4x650MHz PA-RISC 8700 with 1.5MB cache
4x750MHz PA-RISC 8700 with 1.5MB cache

one processor support module for every two CPUs is required

16GB RAM (8x2GB modules (2DIMMs per module) (L3000/RP5470 has 16 slots for memory DIMMs on base board)

Product numbers:
A5796A Processor Support Module (PA-8600)
A6799A Processor Support Module (PA-8700)
A6115A 2GB Memory Module (2x1GB DIMM)
Internal HDDs:
4x146GB HDD (A7080A)

(2)
Also correct, nickel only detected one cell (CAB/CELL: 0/1)

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

hi,

the RP5470 can support 4 cpu's as standard, you just need the correct processor support modules as stated by Robert, 1 per 2x cpu's.
Also as minimum config you get 1 memory carrier board with 8 slots, a 2nd can be added for expansion or correct memory interleaving within the system.

Your report says you have 2 carrier boards already, so you just ned to fill the slots.

If you have 2 cpu's already then you can add another 2 cpu's but will need the 2nd cpu support module.

The Rp7410 you are correct about

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

Hi,

Is my current RP5470 server consists of 1 or 2 processor support module?

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

Hi,

You should have 2 processor support modules as you are talking about the RP5470.

# ioscan -fnkCprocessor
will give the number of cpu's installed.

Probably the /var/tomstones/ts99 will display the number of System Boards installed.

# tail /var/tomstones/ts99

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

hi,

As the proc support modules are orderable extra's like additional cpu's then you probably only have 1 installed, as you only have 2 cpu's.

you could check the FRU list to check the part numbers that correspond to the support modules

echo "selclass qualifier system;info;wait;infolog" ¦ cstm > /tmp/system.txt

run this and view the parts fru part numbers. This should tell you.

Re: Memory for RP5470 & RP7410

I have an RP5470 and am using the utility Nickel but I do not get a detailed report on the memory as shown in this post. All I am getting is the total memory and nothing about what slots are used in the extender cards.

Am I looking to get something like this:

Memory Board Inventory

Extender
Slot Num Configured and Slot label for each DIMM (MB)
-------- --------------------------------------------
0a 2a 1a 3a 3b 1b 2b 0b
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

EXT 0 512 0 0 0 0 0 0 512
EXT 1 512 0 0 0 0 0 0 512
------------------------------------------------------
System Total (MB): 2048

I read the man for Nickel and see no flags to set. System is an RP5470 running HP-UX11.

Thx in advance for any help.
