Modem configuration on RP7410 box

Hi,
I am trying to configure a dial-out/in modem on a HP RP7410 system. I have connected the modem to the 'remote' connector of the 3-way MUX port and selected port1 in SAM, but the modem is not responding in either case of dial-in or dial-out.
any ideas on how to resolve this issue ...
