Modem problem on rp2470 GSP

I have been trying to get a modem working on the rp2470. It is connected to the remote connector on the W-cable. The modem works except for one same thing.

As I type anything, say at login, I don't see the letter I just typed until I enter another letter or CR. As my login is gheil, I type a g and don't see it. Then I type the h, and see the g, and so forth.

Below is the setup.

GSP Setup

Any suggestions? I've read all of the entries in the Knowledge Base that seem to apply.

Also, you'll notice that the remote GSP port is configured as CCITT and hardwared. Yet the device files are for CCITT only. If I create the device files for both (to match the settings in the GSP) I can't get into the modem via kermit. It complains about opening the line with the error "Not a typewriter" I would think that they should match. Yes?
