Move Cell from one server to another, ONE Partition
I have 2 rp7420 systems and would like to move one CELL from the soon to be retired system (4 cores on cell I want to move) to another rp7420 with only one CELL. Below is the sysrev from both systems.
What are the procedures to do what I would like to accomplish? Thank you for your assistance!

Re: Move Cell from one server to another, ONE Partition
hi darren, I understand that you will add the second cell to the partition, all the fw levels must be same in a partition so I should upgrade fw on both machines before doing the cell move first,
If there is a blocker for the latest fw, than you should first move the cell from old to the new 7420, then use the duplicate fw utility on MP to equalize the fw on both cells and then add the cell to the npar with a parmodify command.
hope this helps

Re: Move Cell from one server to another, ONE Partition
hi,
The firmware levels should be the same for all cell boards installed, and as you have different versions it would be best to get them the same before moving the cell if possible.
the "OLD SERVER" has an older version of firmware then the one with one cell, so it would be easier to update the OLD SERVER firmware first before moving it.
The server with one cell has version 3.3 by the looks of it, which you can get from here
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=2512350&swItem=pf-42681-1&prodNameId=392498&swEnvOID=54&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=0
This would get you to the same levels.
Then run the RR commands from the MP to reset for reconfiguration, and move the cell.
Then you should be able to add it to the system.
This version is an old version though, not the latest.
The latest is 4.2 available here
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=2512350&prodNameId=392498&swEnvOID=54&swLang=13&taskId=135&swItem=pf-82060-1&mode=3
but there are a few in between, so read the install notes carefully for all the revisions as you cannot go always update by missing some levels out first. That goes for your earlier versions too, read the notes before attempting it
