N-Class servers and swapping CPU's

We have two N-Class servers (one has a serial number ending with an A and the other has a serial number ending in I believe an C).

Is it possible to take some CPU's out of the N-Class with the serial number ending in a C and put them into an N-Class with the serial number ending with an A?

From what I can tell the CPU's are the same in both systems just the firmware level is different.

Re: N-Class servers and swapping CPU's

hi kent,

it depends upon the speed of the CPU's you have.

The A rev N4000(A3639A) can take 360 and 440mhz proc
The B rev N4000(A3639B) can take 360, 440 and 550mhz cpu's
The C rev N4000(A3639C) can take 360, 440, 550, 650 and 750mhz processors.

You also need the correct processor support module to match the CPU's. the 650 and 750 need a different one to the 360,440,550 cpu.

so you can only add them to the A if the are 360 or 440's.

They all could have the same firmware level as it isnt rev specific.

Re: N-Class servers and swapping CPU's

As far as I know, you can only use the 550, 650, and 750MHz CPUs in the 'C' revision, while the 'A' revision only uses 360 and 440MHz CPUs. So I don't think you will be able to do what you are describing.
