N4000 A and B chassis

Do the N4000 A and B chassis boxes use the same memory and cards making the only difference the speed of the cpu?

Re: N4000 A and B chassis

Yes, your memory, carriers and PCI cards will all work. There are different system boards in each of the three servers.

Here's a breakdown of servers and their speeds:

Server Speeds iBus Speed PCI Bus Speed
A3639A 360 440 120mhz 60mhz
A3639B 360 440 550 120mhz 60mhz
A3639C 550 650 750 133mhz 66mhz

I hope this helps you out.

Good Luck - Tim

Re: N4000 A and B chassis

Hi, thanks for this information. I was unable to find it anywhere.! But just to make sure, you saying that the same memory and cards will work across all three or just between A and B? Thanks

Re: N4000 A and B chassis

Hi Doris,

there are different systemboards to enable higher cpu speeds - thats all. You may use the same supported cards and memory in all systems. But you need to have a current PDC firmware.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: N4000 A and B chassis

Hi, Since the A, B and C models appear to overlap in speeds (ie. Both A and B models come in 440mhz, etc.) How do I tell which model I really have, A or B?
Thanks

Re: N4000 A and B chassis

Doris,
The sticker on the right side of the box (when viewed from the front) should be accurate, should be.

I believe if you run mstm (diagnostics) and do an Info on "system" it will give you the part number of the system board.
A3639-60006 is an A3639A,
A3639-60020 is an A3639B and
A3639-60025 is an A3639C.
(The zeros could be any number)

You could also open the top cover and check for those part numbers on a little white sticker physically located on the system board. I don't recall if it's under the front lids or the rear lids.

Good Luck - Tim
