Re: N4000 System Crash Source: 8 = I/O Chassis Code & Physical Location

Hi,
This was a replacement system for one which had totally unconnected faults.
The system had been up for about 15 Hours when it crashed.
It has now been running all day without any more problems logged.

Thanks for your help.

Ian.

Re: N4000 System Crash Source: 8 = I/O Chassis Code & Physical Location

Hi,
The Network Card in the Slot you said is down and so it is either that Card or PCI slot which caused the problem.

Thanks,

Re: N4000 System Crash Source: 8 = I/O Chassis Code & Physical Location

hi,

you can check the state of the slot with the rad commands for OLAR, take the slots on and off line.

#man rad

#rad -q

will display slots and if power is supplied to the cards, you maybe able to bring it back online.

Re: N4000 System Crash Source: 8 = I/O Chassis Code & Physical Location

Hi,

Looking at the log files, it seems that Bus check(machine check) had occured on Bus 0 which caused HPMC constituting system crash.

The physical location is pointed to the LBA for PCI slot 2 on IO backplane 1. The hardware path for PCI slot 2 is 0/5/0 (ioscan). The configuration error reported for the LBA could occure because of malfunctioning LBA itself or the PCI card installed in the slot.

To pin-point the problem, shutdown the server, remove the PCI card installed in the slot and check if the LBA is being shown in BCH -> IN -> IO
If the LBA is not appearing, then you need to replace the IO backplane. If LBA is OK, then the PCI card could be culprit.
