N4000 "A" Model discontinued?

OK, I've heard some troubling news. The N4000 "A" chasis will be dropped from support soon?

We have 9 "A" chasis N4000's
5-7 "C" chasis N4000's.

I guess I have to look into a replacement for the "A" chasis.

Has anyone heard the same thing?

End of support for N class servers.

Somewhere there the answer may be buried.

How can I find out what my exact model is, without looking at my support contract?

Re: N4000 "A" Model discontinued?

This is what I got from our Account Rep:

HP sets Minimum Support Dates (MSD) early in the products life cycle.
These dates could be extended or could become the End Of Support dates (EOS) for this product.
The MSD is reviewed about 18 months ahead of this date and then becomes the EOS or is extended based on several criteria, one being expected parts availability. The dates listed below that are more than 18 months away are tentative EOS, but they should provide you with some form of target to work with.

N4000, A3639A: Mar 31, 2006
N4000, A3639B: July 31, 2007

The following is a link to the public version of the HP server support matrix:

Hi,

You can use model command to see the server model.

Re: N4000 "A" Model discontinued?

What I mean is, how can I tell what chasis model I have, "A","B" or "C".

Re: N4000 "A" Model discontinued?

You must find the sticker on the machine that lists the model number and serial number. The model number is the indicator.

Model....Chassis Type
A3639A = A chassis
A3639B = B chassis
A3639C = C chassis

Re: N4000 "A" Model discontinued?

Robert,
It might be a good time to look for replacements.
You say you have between 14 and 17 of these N class. At 10U each that's a lot of rack space, power and cooling.
The N class could accomodate from 1 to 8 processors. The estimated TPM of those systems range from 7,250 for a 360MHz 1 way up to 60,000 for a 550MHz 8 way.
In the current rp (PA-RISC) and rx (Itanium 2) class systems you can get comparable performance in a 1 or 2 processor system in a 2U or 4U chasis.
This saves greatly on rack/floor space, power and cooling. The operating system and most databases, such as Oracle, are licensed and maintenance charged per processor. New systems would bring those costs way down.
Also, your concern lies in support being dropped. All vendors charge more for support on older systems.
Probably time to do some shopping.
