NPAR Memory Replacement

Hi Friends,

I have one RP8400 Server with 2 NPARs.

The box has 3 cell boards, each cell board with 16*512MB MEM.

NPAR1 uses:-
1 cell (Cell-0) and 8GB Mem + 1 IO Chassis

NPAR2 Uses:-
2Cells (Cell-1&2) (3rd Cell has only 2 CPU) and 16GB Mem + 1 IO Chassis

I have issues with Cell-1/3A Memory Module and needs to replace this, i.e. on the NPAR2.

I understand we can replace this memory without disturbing the NPAR1.

Can we power off the Cell Board and IO Chassis after the OS is made down and change

frupower -f -c 0/2 and frupower -f -c 0/1

PE from GSP/MP for IO/CELL Power OFF
Or
Reset the partition for reconfigure RR (GSP/MP)

Which will be the best method to follow.
Can some on give a step by step procedure. I do not have parmgr installed for GUI/WEB.

Yes. You should be able to replace any FRU component assoiciated with nPar 2 without disturbing nPar1.

If you are simply replacing with no changes whatsoever, then RR is not needed. Just PE the entities off do your replacement and power back on and RS the nPar 2.

I am assuming though that you are allowed to do the replacement by yourself?


Normally this task is done by an HP FE.

Server1#shutdown -y -h 0
From GSP/MP PE
a) Power off Cell Board 2
b) Power off IO Chassis 1
c) Power off Cell Board 1
Use PS to see the power status of CB & IO
[Replace the Memory]
From GSP/MP PE
a) Power on Cell Board 2
b) Power on IO Chassis 1
c) Power on Cell Board 1
(I hope Powering on the Callboard will boot the NPAR, I read some where powering on/off a core Cell/IO will power on/off the connected core IO/Cell B)

If not from GSP/MP RS 1

Yes you may do an RS if after powering on the individual nPar entities your nPar does not boot to BCH and starts however it was set up.

Hi,

One thing to consider is whether any/all memory on the defective DIMM(s) has been deallocated.
If that's the case you'll need to, from the BCH, go into the option that re-allocates the memory & clears the PDT (page deallocation table). Else the system may not recognize the new memory.
