New RP8420 - Issues with PA8800s

I placed an order back in June for a new RP8420. I was being told that the system was not being built because the new version of the PA-RISC CPUs were being held back due to a "an issue with a lower level part on the processors".

Has anybody recieved similar information that the new dual PA-8800's have any issues?

Did you recieve your RP8420 on time, or was it delayed for extended periods?

I have been waiting for almost a month already, and it's just being release for build because of this CPU issue.

Hi,

We received Rp4440-8 with PA8800 within a month from HP! It works fine here.

Maybe the new systems are more popular than they expected and they are short on components.

Ted, the possibility has definitely crossed my mind, but I would like to think that HP would have been honest with the reason for the delay.

We are finally in the build process now with delivery around the corner, but my concern is that there really is a CPU issue and we may have a problem when we finally get it.

Re: New RP8420 - Issues with PA8800s

The "issue" may be lack of chips or some other part that they need to make the module, such as the 32MB L2 cache that is used in the pa-8800 module and also with the mx2 module. Since the end of HP's quarter is July 31st, you can bet they really want to ship your system (and everything else). I have not heard anything about any trouble with the chip itself.
