This is what I get when I try to install from CDROM. What is causing the failure at the I/O hardware probe. If I put in a good array from another server it boots to the login prompt.

Which server model is it?
Hope this helps!

Re: New install HP UX 1020 on an HP9000/800 server. Bad drives replaced. Install fails
This is a K class server and the software I need is HP UX 10.20. The complier is HP92453-01 A.10.20.00 HP C. I have an image with the complier and license but I need to be able to install the HP UX 10.20. I'm thinking the problem is with the ISO file I am using to load the software. I'v tried it on another server and got the same results.
Application Software
Name: HP-UX 10.2 Application SW S800
Associated Hardware: 9000/800
Introduced: 1996
Product Number: B3920
Media: ISO

Re: New install HP UX 1020 on an HP9000/800 server. Bad drives replaced. Install fails
It may still depend ...
While the first K-class came out in 1995, the "newest" models came in 1998, so not every release of 10.20 supports every K-class.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: New install HP UX 1020 on an HP9000/800 server. Bad drives replaced. Install fails
This server originally had the HP UX 10.20 release with the older complier. Three of the hard drives failed and were replaced. Now trying to re-install the HP UX from cdrom and it fails. Possible the install disk I have is defective. I have another server with the HO UX 10.20 installed but it has the newer complier. This compiler does not work with my test platform. Was hoping I could get an image from that server and they install the image I have that has the colder compiler. Still searching.

Re: New install HP UX 1020 on an HP9000/800 server. Bad drives replaced. Install fails
You probably may consider to take an ignite backup from the running server and install this on the other server. You probably can install the needed compiler from your media.
Consider also to swcopy the media to another server, so you can do a fresh install via ignite.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

I searched on the good server and cannot find ignite. I am not familiar but have read some articles on ignite.

Re: New install HP UX 1020 on an HP9000/800 server. Bad drives replaced. Install fails
creating a backup on tape would work like this:
# /opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn
maybe you can find ignite on your CD media?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: New install HP UX 1020 on an HP9000/800 server. Bad drives replaced. Install fails
Thanks for the info on making a tape image. I do not have a tape drive on any of the servers, only CDROM (CD/DVD).

Re: New install HP UX 1020 on an HP9000/800 server. Bad drives replaced. Install fails
Some more advanced:
You can backup a running server to another server, create a golden image there and install it on the system in question.
Do you have 3 servers at least?
It is a bit unusual to have no tape drive at all for this kind of servers.
How did you make your backup over all the years?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
