I've read that a laptop or pc connected to the parallel port can be used to gain access to the existing OS. Is this a true statement?
I so the,
1. There are 4 d-shell connectors on the backplane so which one is the console output?
2. What terminal emulation software should I use?
Thanks

Re: Newbie Question - Connecting a PC to console
You should have a SCSI, a Network, and A console or MUX at least.
How many pins are on each connector? (if the MUX connector has 3 rows of pins, its 62-pin, if it has 4 rows, it's 78 pin.)

Re: Newbie Question - Connecting a PC to console
http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/showphoto?partnumber=5062-3074
Go here:
http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main
type in the part number (5062-3052)
this will bring up a window where you can type in a quantity and select purchase items (or similar) follow the dialogues, and you can buy one ($33)

Re: Newbie Question - Connecting a PC to console
I am not completely sure that that is the correct part. I don't advise purchasing it unless someone confirms that this is the part number you need.
