PA-8900, how many cores?

If RP4410-4 server has two modules, with all processors active, how many processor cores are there? My first guess was that there were 4 CPUs (chips) with 2 cores each ["...The PA-8900 processor is a dual-core microprocessor chip..."] but in several documents I found that there are two CORES on one module ["...64 MB level 2 unified cache per processor module (contains 2 PA-8900 CPU cores)..."], which would mean that one CPU is one chip with one core.
Can someone help?

Re: PA-8900, how many cores?

Hi Dusan,

On an rp4410 there are up to 2 physical dual core chips for a total of 4 CPUs.
The rp4440 can have 4 chips giving you 8 CPUs or cores.

Re: PA-8900, how many cores?

Hi Dusan,

Each cpu module has two cores.

Processor Details

-Dual PA 8900 processor modules at 800 MHz or 1.0 GHz frequencies
-Level 2 Cache: 64 MB (shared between processors)
-Level 1 Cache: 1.5 MB per processor (3 MB per processor module)
-Single bit cache error correction
-44 bit physical addressing
-64 bit virtual addressing
-4 GB maximum page size

CPU Configuration Rules Dual processor modules can be installed one at a time
CPUs must be installed in the following sequence: 0, 1, 2, 3

800-MHz and 1.0-GHz CPUs cannot be mixed in the same system

Best regards

Thank you for quick answers. It is all clear now.

Re: PA-8900, how many cores?

I it possible to use firmware to disable one of the cores on the dual core pa-8900 chip, so HP can sell you a system with only one active core. You can then buy an upgrade to "activate" the other core, which is really done by upgrading the firmware.
