PA-RISC linux on 861/d370

Hi everyone,

I have an "old" HP 9000 D370/861 with HP-UX 10.20, that i am using for logging&monitoring. The problem is most of applications that I want to use is not suitable for the OS. I am trying to switch to linux and I was reading that parisc is the choice. Does anyone tried yet? It really works? Does the applications in general works on it? Migrating to linux is the solution?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Re: PA-RISC linux on 861/d370

Hi,

I would install HP-UX 11iv1 (11.11) as the first choice.

But regarding Linux see

http://www.parisc-linux.org/

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Hi Torsten,
Thanks for your reply.
I don't want to do any hardware upgrade, if possible. The box has 392 MBRAM.Will it work with v11.11

The D370 is supported for 11.11, see

http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-6552/ch02s03.html#babcjdai

I have a small system running with 11.11 with only 195MB RAM.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: PA-RISC linux on 861/d370

I have a 128 Mb RAM D370 that works just fine. With small RAM, most things take longer due to paging (sometimes a lot longer) but it runs just fine on 11.11 that is 100% patched to 2007 releases. Application compatibility is not clear...are you asking about HP software or features found only in 111.11? Or are you looking for freeware that is ready to use without a compiler? Most HP-UX freeware is available for 11.00 and later although you can get a lot of programs from http://mirrors.develooper.com/hpux/
