PDU required for rp5470 200v?

Hi,

The machine was installed in a standard (non-HP) 19" rack and we opted to use the rack's 100v power strips to supply the N+1. Now the rack has been filled with other higher priority machines and we have been told to use a separate 200v circuit for the rp5470 instead. HP tells me the only option is to install a PDU, but there's no space. I want to connect C-13-to-L6-20 cables ( like at http://www.internationalconfig.com/icc6.asp?item=93900 ) between all three power supplies and UPS-backed L6-20 receptacles under the floor. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this?

Thanks,
Jon

Re: PDU required for rp5470 200v?

The current that you rp5470 will draw across all three power supplies is 6.5 Amps at 200V. Therefore, if you plug into three separate circuits you are not using much of each 20 amp circuit. If you don't use separate circuits then the circuit becomes a single point of failure (might or might not be acceptable). If you are using an E-series rack then there are several PDU option including some that don't take any U of space because they are on the side. The problem is that you would need three or you are back to using a single circuit. More info on options at www.hp.com/racksolutions, a.k.a. http://h30140.www3.hp.com/

Re: PDU required for rp5470 200v?

Ted,

Thanks. Actually I need to know if there's any reason I should _not_ connect 250v rated cables directly from my server to my available power sources (they would be C-15-to-L620).

There's no reason not to. I have used servers in that configuration many times. All of HP's more recent servers have automatic voltage sensing built in.
