Possible to monitor server room temp.....

This is on a RP5470 running HPUX11.11. I know this server is supposed to shutdown when the temp reaches a certain degree - I think it's 41 c or 43 c. Anyway - is there a way to tell what the current temperature of the room is from this server? Thanks.

A few servers and other hardware can monitor temperate and provide output other than "OverTemp" but the solution is never a general one. You should realize that computers are really lousy devices for performing this function but there are devices that do this task very well. They are called thermometers. Buy yourself a digital thermometer with a serial port and query it. There are also fairly inexpensive units on the market which support network interfaces. A google search should find tons of them.

If you are even having to ask this question, it means that you have problems. HVAC is always something that you never even have to think about. Buy yourself N + 1 units where N units can handle the full thermal load; that is really the only approriate approach.

Hi,

Your server can be customised to shutdown when temp goes above a specified limit

How ever it is very much advised to have Large size LED pannel digital thermometer placed inside server room, which can be monitored from your console room.

It is not advised to just go behind the capability of the equipments to report and shutdown automatically, since all equipments are having unique shutdown temp.
