What software do I need to have the system shutdown by the Power Trust UPS if we lose power for an extended amount of time?

you need to connect the ups via a serial cable. not what port on the server you use.

the easiest way is to use SAM

#sam

then go to

Peripheral Devices > Uniterruptible Power Supplies

modify both the
"Modify Global Configuration" and
"Modify"
under the "Actions" menu.

Set the "Modify Global Configuration" to Activate the daemon.. it is by default not deactivated..

or you could modify /etc/ups_conf file directly if you are really brave.
