PowerChute Business Edition

This is for a single SmartUPS 1500 connected to a HP B2000 workstation.

Anyone know why there is not a version of PowerChute Business Edition Basic available for HP-UX? It seems to be available for just about every other OS, but not for HP-UX. In order to get the software for HP-UX you have to purchase the Plus version.

The Basic Edition is available for the following:
Windows 2003
Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6
Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3
Windows XP
Red Hat Linux v.7.3, 8.0 and 9.0
SuSE v.8.0 and 8.1
TurboLinux v.7.0 and 8.0
Novell Netware 6.0 with Support Pack 1
Novell Netware 6.5
Novell Netware 5.1 with Support Pack 3 or above (using PowerChute Business Edition v6.2.2 agent)
Sun Solaris 8 and 9

Re: PowerChute Business Edition

Your right, "PowerChute Network Shutdown software is free and available for HP-UX versions 10.20 and 11i". But, what I am looking for is "PowerChute Business Edition".

I need the software that controls the UPS from a direct serial or USB connection. This software monitors the UPS and, if desired, can be configured to do a shutdown.

The software you listed is a network solution for shuting down systems conected to a larger UPS.

Dear Roger,

Thank you for contacting APC on 05/14/2004.

Roger, the PowerChute Business Edition will not work with HP-UX severs. The proper software to be used is PowerChute for HP-UX.

This software is compatible with HP-UX 9.x, 10.0, 10.01, 10.10, 10.20, 11.00.

Hello:

I have a customer that would like to use PowerChute Business Edition with his HP-UX servers. Does that capability exist with PBE or another product?

Thank you!

The product they're suggesting lists for $199 so I imagine it won't be as appealing as freeware. The good news is, you've got an answer direct from the horse's mouth. APC is a very good company. I hope this won't turn you off on them.

Re: PowerChute Business Edition

Thanks Roger for your help, this confirms my original post that states only the pay version is available for HP-UX. The version that is included with the UPS is not. This is what I was able to determine from their web-site, and your email confirms it.

I just wonder why the included version no longer supports HP-UX? The previous UPS of theirs that I had included a HP-UX version. Of course I got that back when I was running 10.20. I never took the time to look for an updated version of the software, until my UPS died and I had it replaced.
