Problem with HBA A6795A N and L class

Hello,

I think that I have problems with my HBAs card in my N4000 and L2000 computers. I have two different XL2 Chip Revision No 2.3 and 2.2.

I use this cards to connect to an HDS 9500V and to a tape Library (Scalar 1000 Emulation) through a Brocade 3800 Switch.

Is this Possible?

I have this card plugged into these machines. Have you got the A6795A driver installed?

If not, you need it. If so, you can use the command 'fcmsutil' to see what the HBA's see...

Do a 'man fcmsutil' for all the many options.

Otherwise, maybe give some more details about your actual problem?

this shouldn't be a problem. What exactly is your problem? Could you please provide more details?
(Is the HBA logged into the Brocade switch? Do you get error messages, etc..?)

Thanks for your replay,

As I can know from HP this cards are out of support since 2th April 2003 and this is the only one card on 11.00 version for 2Gb there are another one but is 11i.

Hp tell me that this cards are out of suuport because the problems detected with the backplane on the L and N classes. Then if I want 2Gb cards I need to change my O.S level to 11i.

There are a patch for two different cards version plugged in the same box.

This is the information that HP gives me about the support on this cards, as you have installed this cards, I think that this is important for you:
"As of April 2, 2003, the A6795A HBA is no longer supported on the following
platforms as an add-on product. However, HP will continue to support the
A6795A HBA as installed prior to 2 April 2003 on the following products.

L1000 (product number A5576A)
L2000 (product number A5191A)

N4000 Revision A (product number A3639A)
N4000 Revision B (product number A3639B)

Cards purchased after 2 April 2003 will not be supported in the listed
systems and movement of cards purchased prior to 2 April 2003 into the
listed systems will not be supported."

Do you have installed PHSS_26799 patch?

there is an issue about chip reisions

XL2 rev 2.2 would not always work correctly when 2K frame
payloads were used. These issues are documented in the XL2
2.2 Errata Revision 1.6 as issues B26 and B28.
Since these issues have been fixed in XL2 rev 2.3, 2K frame
payload support will be enabled in the driver for HBAs that
have XL2 rev 2.3.

Resolution:
The driver has been modified to enable 2K frame payload
sizes to be used when the HBA uses XL2 rev 2.3 chip and
when the target device supports 2K frame payload sizes.

I realize this is an old question -- but as it turns out, the real determining factor on whether these cards are supported in a particular machine is not readily apparent. We went around and around with HP on this question. In the end, the final determinant was a test that our CE could run on our machines to determine the version of a particular I/O component, and if it was at a recent enough version, then the cards would be supported. In our case, it was several L2000s (A5191B) -- although that wasn't enough information to know whether they would be OK or not.
