I need to clone an L-Class server onto an N-Class server.
Despite the model differences I hope this is posible with Ignite?
Both boxes have 16 GB RAM but the L-Class uses larger sized DIMMs of 1 GB whereas the N-Class uses 512 MB sized DIMMs.
Thus, I was asked by application admins (SAP) if we could put more RAM into the N-Class by swapping around a bit with the DIMMs.
So is it possible to replace some of the 512 MB DIMMs of the N-Class by some of the L-Class'es 1 GB DIMMs?
Here's the bank layout of the L-Class
(hope it is readable enough for I checked the "Retain format" checkbox in the form.
Basic Memory Description
Module Type: MEMORY
Total Configured Memory : 16384 MB
Page Size: 4096 Bytes
Memory interleaving is supported on this machine and is ON.
Memory Board Inventory
Extender
Slot Num Configured and Slot label for each DIMM (MB)
-------- --------------------------------------------

---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
EXT 0 1024 1024 1024 1024 1024 1024 1024 1024
EXT 1 1024 1024 1024 1024 1024 1024 1024 1024
------------------------------------------------------
System Total (MB): 16384
And here's the bank layout of the N-Class
asic Memory Description

Re: RAM Swap from L- to N-Class possible?
You may have better luck asking in the 9000 forum.

Re: RAM Swap from L- to N-Class possible?
Part numbers for the memory are completely different between the L and the N - I doubt it's possible.

Re: RAM Swap from L- to N-Class possible?
Because Each system can use different DIMM and SIMM even same size RAM.
here the Part NO
N-class
512 MB MEMORY SIMM A4923-69101
1 GB MEMORY SIMM A5864-69001
L-class
1024 MB MEMORY DIMM A6115-69001
check you RAM part NO

Re: RAM Swap from L- to N-Class possible?
I was checking a few moments ago, and it looks like the parts numbers for memory on the N-class are different than the L-class.

Re: RAM Swap from L- to N-Class possible?
Err, how do I identify the DIMMs' prod Nos.?
The cstm map info for memory isn't showing.
This is what I found in mstm beneath the system map, it looks as if it refers to a RAM DIMM.
So this is from the L-Class
seems to carry A5864-60002 DIMMs
FRU Handle: 0xb
FRU Physical Location: 0x0000ff00012aff74
FRU Source = 7 (memory)
Source Detail = 4 (SIMM or DIMM)

Card Cage Location = 0
Cell Location = 0
Extender Location = 1
DIMMS Rank = 42
FRUID Field ascii hex

which seems to carry A4923-60001 DIMMs

How do I know if
A5864-60002 and A4923-60001 merge?

SolutionENter the memory part number in
http://www.partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main

Re: RAM Swap from L- to N-Class possible?
I didn't know it.
But when I enter the part No. of the L-Class DIMM I am only served a table with a half broke n link identified as 2 GB SDRAM update kit.
Whereas when I take the N-Class DIMM's part No. the resulting table contains links to N-Class and rp7400 servers.
This seems to be in accordance with all your answers and indicate that the parts are unfortunately not mergeable.

Re: RAM Swap from L- to N-Class possible?
Just as a point of interest. I have a memory chip in an L class which cstm tell me is a DIMM_256 part number A3763. If you look this up on partsufer as A3763A it says it is for an N class. It seems to work fine and has been installed for years. I don't know how this happened. It is only a 256MB chip but .....?
