RP 2470

Hi,

We have installed 11.23 on RP2470 and the server goes down regularly. We are unable to find nothing in the syslog.

Any suggestions

Re: RP 2470

Do you have crashdumps enabled? Do you have any in /var/adm/crash/?

Have you looked in /etc/shutdownlog?

See crashconf(1M) & rc.config(4) & rc(1M).
And most importantly: /etc/rc.config.d/crashconf

Re: RP 2470

Hi ,

I have the crash enabled by default.

Any suggestions and also clarify if RP2470 supports 11.23

It looks like it:

Thsnka for your update. Any suggestions on why the server goes down often.. I am in the progress of installing the latest QPK and HW bundle patches for the same

Well, you need to find out where it was logged.
It was either shutdown/rebooted. Or it crashed.

Or somehow the power was just turned off.
Do you have any of the boot messages indicating if it did a fsck(1m)?

Have you looked in /etc/rc.log?
(Check to see if crash dumps enabled and if "Save system crash dump if needed".)

post the last 3 or 4 errors logged here.

login to gsp and type sl followed by e and then n to no filters

Shall post the GSP logs once the server goes down again...

The logs may be big enough that you can still see the previous crash??

I've seen some going back many months.

Re: RP 2470

When HP-UX crashes, there will be no log entries since there is no OS -- the machine is dead. So the only useful info will be in /etc/shutdownlog. If it shows a panic condition, then you will have a crash dump in /var/adm/crash unless you have disabled savecrash. In that case, the shutdownlog will just report an unknown reason for the crash.

The GSP is always running and the logs are kept in NVRAM so you'll see any hardware problems going back for dozens of entries (days to weeks, even months). If no problems are shown (be sure to check each timestamp in the GSP logs, then the problem is a software panic or possibly a loss of power to the box.

Re: RP 2470

You can obtain the GSP logs anytime. Can you please post the GSP logs around the time of crash.
