Re: RP 7410 Fan Failure Error

hi paul,

the fan is the one in slot 3.

however there is teo fans both with a position slot 3.

I think the one you are after is the pci card cage assy fans though. this is the front left fan as viewed from the front under the top cover.

more details of the fans and there replacement is here

see page 93 and 95

Re: RP 7410 Fan Failure Error

Hi Paul,

In addition, make sure you're running the latest PDC, as some fan related issues were resolved in later versions:

Re: RP 7410 Fan Failure Error

Thanks.

I replaced the fan and will update the pdc if I see any further issues.

So the slot number is the fan position then? Someone else told me it was in the chassis code encoded field.

Re: RP 7410 Fan Failure Error

Hi Paul,

It is in the code, but it will break it down to text if configured to. In your case it was there:

FRU Physical Location: 0x00ffffffff03ff64
FRU Source = 6 (platform entity)
Source Detail = 4 (card cage fan)
Cabinet Location = 0
Slot Number = 3

The chassis code break-down tells you (most of the time ;-))where the failing component is.

The fan slot locations are documented in here:

http://docs.hp.com/en/A6752-96008/A6752-96008.pdf

Hope this helps.
