RP3440 - Unsupported Card in PCI slot 3 & 4

Hi,

We replaced the system board of an RP3440
afterwards, the system refused to boot unless PCI cards in slots 3 & 4 are removed.
After furhter investigations, we noticed that the system is RP3410 instead of RP3440.
We beleieve that SS_Update may solve the problem but this has for the moment the follwing lockword: Z4834d82c

Appreciate to get the corresponding password.

Thanks in advance

Note that the system is RP3440 (A7137A) it looks like the system ID has changed for an unknown reason.

Your best bet would be to open a support call with HP and let them handle it.

Re: RP3440 - Unsupported Card in PCI slot 3 & 4

Common parts between different systems are always downgraded - by replacing the board you have the "smaller" board. In theory the firmware will handle this, but you can also run some commands to fix this.
No general advise - too complicated, too many side affects.
Ask the support!

Point to start:
run EFI shell
do "sysmode service"
do "sysset"
post result!

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: RP3440 - Unsupported Card in PCI slot 3 & 4

RP34x0 is the PA server and do not use EFI commands. You should be able to set the correc system ID with the BCH command "ser init". This is documented in the service guide. http://docs.hp.com/en/A7137-96008/ch06s20.html

If you have used this command once and have set some wrong value, you need to call HP to get their help. The command ss_update is not the customer tool. No one can provide you the password other than HP engineers.

Re: RP3440 - Unsupported Card in PCI slot 3 & 4

The rp3410 only allows 2 slots to be used, was the card installed set for rp3410 or rp3440 server ??? in which case HP will have to change the model code.

Re: RP3440 - Unsupported Card in PCI slot 3 & 4

Thank you all for your support.

The problem appeared after repacing the base unit of the RP3440, I beleive this base unit is the same as for the RP3410 (can any one confirm?)
and it is set for 3410 for this reason it does not let me add any card in slot3 & slot4

Farid

Re: RP3440 - Unsupported Card in PCI slot 3 & 4

I am not sure what "base unit" is. You wrote "We replaced the system board" in the first log. So the answer is YES. Both models use the same system board for repair. If you used some existing rp3410 server system board for rp3440 repair, there is no way you can use the slot 3 and 4 other than you order the upgrade product. If you received the board from HP, you should be able to use BCH command "ser init". If not, I suggest you will call HP support center.

Re: RP3440 - Unsupported Card in PCI slot 3 & 4

We actually claimed a new system board from hp.
in all case I will open a case since system is under support.
what I actually need is the ss_update password (lockword is now: Zbaed7fdc)
