RP5450 don't run with 550mhz processor!

Hi,
I have a hp9000 server rp5450 revision B (A5191B) with 360mhz processors. It works very well.
When I upgrade to 550mhz processors it doesn't run. Yes, I change the dip switch.
The PDC firmware version is 44.28.
The part-number of system-board is A5191-60016 (Rev.B).
I need help.

Thanks,
Gustavo Campos

Re: RP5450 don't run with 550mhz processor!

Setting for S1 switch should be
3 and 5 on, all others off

What means "not run".
Does it reach the boot menu?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: RP5450 don't run with 550mhz processor!

Torsten,
The server is power on, but it doesn't show me the post in console... it doesn't show me the MAIN MENU... the led "RUN" is blinking, but the post doesn't initiate... the server is static.

Re: RP5450 don't run with 550mhz processor!

How many CPUs do you have?

Did you try to install only 1 in slot 0.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Yes, I tried to install only 1 CPU in slot 0, and I tried too, install all 4 CPU's. Did not work.
Please, help me. Rsrs

Thanks.

Re: RP5450 don't run with 550mhz processor!

Did this board work with 360MHz CPUs or is it a different board?
How many "old" CPUs were installed?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: RP5450 don't run with 550mhz processor!

This board is revision B (A5191-60016) and support 360, 440, 550mhz.
4x 360mhz processors were installed.
Thanks.

Re: RP5450 don't run with 550mhz processor!

hi,

first, check the processor slots are clean, no small particles in there.

second, check the processor pins thoroughly. These are easily damaged if not packaged correctly or installed correctly. If there all ok and none slightly in deeper than the others, make sure there clean also.

Then install one at once, leaving the processor support modules in place and securing them by screwing them in evenly as stated on the CPU top.

Can you get to the GSP?

you also might want to check to see that you have the correct ones. The RP74xx & RP54xx CPUs look the same, The RP54xx are A6146A and the RP74xx are A5866A

Re: RP5450 don't run with 550mhz processor!

The A6146-04001 (540MHz ) CPU operates at 540 MHz only when installed in an A5191-60016 rev B system board.

CPUs must be installed in the following sequence: 0, 3, 1, then 2

Re: RP5450 don't run with 550mhz processor!

If the server works with the "old" CPU's I would assume the hardware is OK.
If the system works with 4 CPUs, I would assume it is a L2000 (not L1000 - what makes a difference related to the number of CPUs).

I would try to install each CPU in slot 0 as a single CPU to test. Probably I would try the "new" CPUs with the 360MHz speed settings.

Hope this helps!

Re: RP5450 don't run with 550mhz processor!

Andrew,
Yes, I cleaned the 4 slots and the pins are ok. In the GSP it does not show me nything with the command SS.

Jesse,
The P/N of the processors is A6146A.

tkc,
I'm installing in the sequence: 0(1), 3(2), 1(3), and then 2(4).

Torsten,
It really run with 360mhz processors, but when I install 550mhz processor, does not run.

Thanks for all.

Re: RP5450 don't run with 550mhz processor!

hi,

all seems very strange.

one thing to point out though is to run just one CPU you need to have processor terminator in slot 3, the second cpu slot.

if you dont have one then install 2 at a time, and try the combinations.

you wont actually get anything regarding the processors in GSP if it hasnt initialized them in the selftests first and at least nearly got to PDC.

do the error logs show anything?

and double check you've got the switches the correct way round and the correct bank! the other bank of switches disables the CPU's

Re: RP5450 don't run with 550mhz processor!

hi, with the l2000 system board, the cpu speed you can achieve is 540MHz with the CPU part you have, not 550MHz. You only can achieve 550MHz in a l3000 system board.

ok, if you want the cpu part you have to work on the l2000 system board, ensure the dip switch settings are 00101. i supposed yours is now 10111.
