I was curious on the diferance between hardware and firmware on an hp N-Class server. What is the diferance if you were running HP-UX vs MPE.

The physical hardware is the same between the HP 9000 servers and HP 3000 servers for the N-series.

However, I believe there are firmware differences. The 'model' string is different and there may be other differences.

A 3000 can be converted to a 9000, and vice-versa, but ONLY HP is authorized to do this.

The HP-UX model is internally marked as a HP9000, the MPE model is marked as HP3000.
A HP3000 cannot run HP-UX and vice versa.

MPE is another operating system.

ok thanks for the replies. I think is just a matter of running SSCONFIG along with SSKEY and changing model string and what version of OS its going to be running. I think only HP field engineers can perform this operation.

You care correct about 'ssconfig'. That is the tool that is used.

You are also correct that only HP personnel can do this.
